Approach
Joe specialises in developing leadership, team effectiveness and culture so organisations can responsibly navigate complexity, uncertainty and disruptive change. He works with people, teams and cultures as complex, living systems with their own history, purpose and hidden potential. He works with emergence: sensing what’s already trying to happen, testing it through live experiments, amplifying what works through relationships and letting go of what doesn’t. He works with a living system’s many layers, seen and unseen, drawing on psychodynamic and systemic principles.
Beneath this sits a conviction: the most important thing we can do, as people and as organisations, is to face reality together — to name what’s true about ourselves, our systems and a destabilising world, and to respond with courage while we have room to choose. This is why Joe helps leaders grow and create positive change: so organisations flourish, ecosystems thrive and people come alive.
Integration is the guiding principle of all Joe’s work. He anchors interventions to organisational strategy and the needs of stakeholders, and partners with clients to embed development in the organisation’s real work, so leaders and teams grow while working on what matters most. Integration includes connecting relationships across organisational boundaries, naming what has been unacknowledged, strategy included, so it can be worked on collectively, and drawing on complementary disciplines and methods to effect and sustain change. Development designed and facilitated this way shifts the many dimensions of people and systems in real time: relationships, focus, resources, energy, emotions and even power. Change becomes a capability the organisation owns.
In the room, Joe works with what’s ‘live’, naming patterns as they emerge, including what a group can feel but hasn’t yet acknowledged. He balances ‘heat’ with safety: enough challenge to grow, and enough containment for people to stay open instead of defended. The human body and emotions are part of the work, and where the deepest shifts happen. His facilitation follows what’s ‘real’ over what was planned. The aim throughout is agency: leaders and teams who see their own patterns clearly, and keep adapting to change.
People appreciate Joe’s empathetic and challenging approach, perceptive observations, enthusiasm and commitment to meaningful change.
