Frequently asked questions about our courses
Answers to frequently asked questions about our coach training programmes.
Our proposition is modular, with versatile and flexible paths to accreditation, meaning our participants can construct the accreditation and depth of learning path that is right for them. We provide each participant with a breadth and depth of coaching capability informed by cutting edge theories and psychological models combined with rigorous practitioner development. Our faculty are role models selected for their specific expertise and practitioner experience as well as their ability to develop excellent coach practitioners. Our workshops are experiential and include observed coaching practice sessions with a heavy focus on feedback to ensure each coach’s capability develops throughout the programme. Our programmes have participants from across the public and private sectors in the UK and Europe.
The average size of each cohort is 12-15 people, with a minimum of two tutors on each workshop.
The admission requirements for the MSc, Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma are as follows:

Participants who have previously received coach training with TPC Leadership may be able to join programmes at different stages. The full APEL (Accredited Prior Learning ) process may be discussed by contacting us.
Participants who have attended previous coach training with other organisations may also be considered for APEL, dependent on coach training attended and the programme they are applying for. Please contact us for more information.
If you have been awarded a PgC Coaching & Development (C&D) within the past five years from a Higher Education institution other than the University of Portsmouth, you may apply for ‘advanced entry’ to the PgD C&D provided you meet the course admissions criteria. To do this you would apply for ‘Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning’ (APEL) at the same time as you apply to TPC Leadership to join the course.
You will be required to complete an APL1 form, claiming 60M-level credits as ‘certified learning’ against the University of Portsmouth PgC C&D. You should attach the original certificate from the institution giving the award. There will be no charge for us to process this type of advanced entry/APEL application.
If you have been awarded a PgC within the past five years which contains ‘coaching’ in the award title but not ‘development’, you may apply for advanced entry via APEL as above. In addition to completing the APL1 form, you are required to submit a ‘mapping document’ which shows that the learning outcomes of the PgC you have been awarded match the learning outcomes of the PgC C&D awarded by the University of Portsmouth. You will be provided with a mapping document template by TPC Leadership to enable you to complete this. There will be a non-returnable fee for this form of APEL application to cover the administration and assessment.
For individuals who have been awarded a PgC within the past five years which contains ‘coaching’ in the title but not ‘development’ where adequate mapping as described above cannot be demonstrated, ‘experiential learning’ which draws on work experience and personal development can be included in the mapping document to demonstrate that the learning outcomes of the PgC C&D have been met. Applicants for this form of APEL should submit a portfolio of ‘evidence’ with a completed APL1 form at least 8 weeks prior to commencing the PgD C&D course. There will be a non-returnable fee for such APEL applications.
